Why this petition matters

Started by Elisha Arms

The Whippoorwill Bay Homeowners Association held a meeting and decided to close. Not all the homeowners were informed and not all the homeowners voted. But they decided to close and to sell the common areas including our park, without the majority vote.

The neighborhood has gone downhill over the years and that park is the only thing left for the children. They already filled in the swimming pool and illegally sold the back park years ago. Now they are trying to get rid of the last refuge these children have in this low income community. They are doing this against the consent of many homeowners in the neighbourhood. They are liquidating the assets, even though the sale is being challenged and we are in the process of filing a class-action lawsuit.

They are selling off all park and office equipment. They are unwilling to listen to any suggestions and are demanding $350,000 for the property. It was suggested that the property be donated to a the county or a local church so that it may stay a park and be used for an outreach for the community. But the HOA refuses to even consider donating the land. We have people looking into the legalities of the sale. We are demanding a second meeting and a recount. We want a list of homeowners and a list of verified eligible voters. We also want bank statements going back from the sale of the back park.

They said it's a done deal and there is nothing we can do about it. So I'm organizing a protest and starting a petition to keep the park. I'm contacting the newspaper and local television stations. Please lend your support to our cause. Help save the Whippoorwill Bay Park. Don't let them take the only thing these kids have out here.

The sale will benefit a few. Giving it to the church will benefit a community. Do it for the children. Please sign and share this petition to save our park.

****Update:

A protest has been scheduled at the park Saturday,  May 14th at 1PM. Come out and join us if you are able and please help spread the word.
