Save Organic Farming

San Diego Organic farms are under attack. Since November 2011The Board of Supervisors have been trying to change laws regarding organic farms and eye gnats. The first two times they were not successful and now they are trying again. The proposed change states: "Changes to the Ordinance as it was previously released for public review from January 31, 2012 to February 10, 2012 would still not authorize DEH to require the use of conventional pesticides on organic crops or fields or to restrict the crops that could be grown organically on a farm, EXCEPT AS A LAST RESORT."
The DEH does not specify what classifies as a last resort or who determines when it reaches this point. It is a very vague statement that puts San Diego organic farms in jeopardy of the county coming in and spraying up to five different conventional pesticides.  Either the wording of "a last resort" needs to be removed or it needs clarification.

Be Wise Ranch is the largest organic farm in San Diego.  Being the largest they are the main target of these changes in the law.  I have been a member of the farm for over 6 years.  I have enjoyed strawberries, blueberries, oranges, carrots, beets, broccoli, lettuce, zucchini and more all without worrying about ingesting chemicals or pesticides.  Be Wise also ships across the country.  These changes would affect more than just San Diego and the organic farms here. It would affect those nationally that buy San Diego produce.

Do not give free reign to spray pesticides.  Please support organic produce.
