Stop a multi-site contractor replacing Nina's independent cafe.

Nina is the wonderful woman who runs the cafe at Iffley road. If you train at Iffley you'll know Nina. Open 7 days a week, she provides individuals, groups and sports teams with the most wonderful selection of foods. She caters for all our needs, from kilos of chicken for the rugby team, to a low-calorie breakfast for boxers cutting weight. Nina sources local produce and yet still manages to keep costs low, allowing students to eat hearty meals for very fair prices.

Iffley is a very special place, which is why the Development Office has done so well raising money for the new build. Students build memories at Iffley. Sport offers people a chance to succeed, helps them to develop skills, and brings communities together. It changes lives. It breaks barriers*. Furthermore, Student Athletes can go through some of their best and worst times, at university, during training. What makes those hard training sessions bearable is going somewhere where site staff feel like close friends and family. Those familiar faces have now created a community and the heart of the community at Iffley road is Nina’s café.

Nina took over the cafe on 1st of September 2008. At that time the cafe was failing. It was failing for that owner and the previous two owners before him. Nearly 9 years has passed and Nina's cafe is still open and going strong.  Nina’s café is a part of the Iffley road complex, the important site which not only gives students opportunities but which also contributes effectively to the cultural, social, and economic life of the city of Oxford and the Oxfordshire region*. Unfortunately, Nina's cafe contract is going to be terminated on the 8th of September 2017, because the University Development Office wants a new contractor to take over multiple University sites.

I don't want Nina's cafe to close, it's her livelihood and she has given it her all to make it the success it now is. The Sports Development Office need to reconsider their decision to terminate her contract.

When I told one of the sports coaches about the Café, his response summed it up for me pretty perfectly, “We’re family here. She’s part of our family and we can’t let her go without a fight”.
