Why this petition matters

Started by Jemima Kelly

Woodland Creation on behalf of Leeds City Council have proposed to plant 540 new whips (approx 6ft new trees) 4ft apart on New Farnley Recreation Ground aka the village green.

We want to oppose the planting of all these trees at New Farnley Recreation ground. The village green is used by the scouts, childrens parties, picnicing families, dog walkers and children playing.

We have 50 trees already on the green, along with adjacent woodland, and basically, we are surrounded with trees, we cannot allow another 540 in the village.

The new building site on Low Moorside has felled all the trees so that they can build houses!! Also Whitehall Road from the ring road up to New Farnley is treelined the trees are mature.

If this goes ahead we will have a forest instead of a village green.

At present the council does not look after trees they let them just grow to incredible heights, dont think anybody inspects them for diseases, two of the trees have fallen down near flats on lawns lane, if they had been inspected - council would have known they were unhealthy, council wait till they fall down before checking trees.

We have large trees in our communal garden, one is leaning badly towards the cottages, council said its okay! also large trees at back of cottages need attention. The cottages where i live are already dark due to the amount of trees surrounding them, in winter and summer, lights have to be turned on as the kitchen and bathroom are dark through the day.

I believe the residents in New Farnley will oppose this initiative.

Please sign and help us to stop the destruction of the recreation grounds.
