Petition updateSave Mount Pleasant Park - Stop the PoolA Symbolic Weekend at Mount Pleasant Park

It’s May long weekend, the unofficial start to summer in Canada! We made it! And the weather looks to be cooperating, with great park-friendly weather all weekend.

This is also a symbolic weekend, as it is when outdoor pools in Vancouver open for their very short, 100 day season.

So get out there and show some love for Mount Pleasant Park. Show the pro-pool lobbyists (who will likely be out in force this weekend) that we love our park just the way it is, without a pool, thank you very much!

Have a picnic, string up a hammock, play frisbee, read a book, or just hang out with some friends. Take up space and celebrate this tiny gem of a park! Heck – you can even have a beer as Vancouver Park Board just expanded the park areas where people can drink in this summer (okay, technically MPP isn’t on their list, but that hasn’t stopped you before. You know who you are.)

We are down to the final weeks to really register our collective opposition to the proposed pool. In our last update, we asked you to email City Councillors and copy Park Board Commissioners - this is critical and we hope they receive an avalanche of emails from those of us opposed to the park. We’ve made it easy for you to copy and paste decision-makers’ email addresses, as well as sample content for your letter.

You also have 2 days left to complete the City of Vancouver’s quick survey on the draft 2023-2026 Capital Plan. Key to opposing the proposed pool is to say no to building new amenities (which the pool is), and yes to upgrading existing amenities and infrastructure. The survey closes May 22.

We’ve also been trying to hold our own against the pro pool folks on social media, especially FB (our own facebook group and others like this one). If you want to weigh in on why you love the park and let the elites know that times have changed, people living in apartments need parks, and Mount Pleasant Park is the wrong location for a pool, please do so!

Enjoy your long weekend everyone!
