Annalee Holliday started this petition to David Tromans (Headteacher) and

Maryport’s only swimming pool is to close this month because Netherhall School does not have the £150,000 needed to repair it. It has been left to fall into a state of disrepair and now the plan is to close it without any public consultation.

Mr Tromans, Headteacher of Netherhall School said it was ultimately a decision by the board of governor as the school cannot afford the repairs that are desperately needed.

The pool will close on Friday 19th October.

Mr Tromans has also said it seems unlikely that the pool will open again in the near future – and certainly not by the school.

He hopes that someone will come forward with the money or that a community group will run it and enable it to apply for charitable grants.

If you value the local pool, which offers swimming to all ages, in particular all the local schools who use it for lessons, please help by signing this petition and showing your support. If enough people come forward, perhaps we can show councillors and funders there is support for the pool and we might just save it!
