Marsden park Bushland in Western Sydney NSW is scheduled to be destroyed and turned into a booming centre of business and residential complexes.
These forests are valuable with unique and endangered vegetation communities such as Cumberland Plain Woodlands, Castlereagh Swamp Woodlands and Alluvial Woodlands on the Cumberland Plain in Western Sydney.
The Cumberland Plain has been vastly destroyed since European settlement and only 5% remains with less then 2% in pristine form.
Much of this destroyed due the fertile shale soils of the Cumberland plain which the coastal areas lacked being sandstone.
This area is habitat for rare and endangered flora and fauna, some native to only the Cumberland Plain (such as the endangered Cumberland plain land snail) and if we destroy this Bushland that is part of important corridors for these animals in Western Sydney, there is a very real chance that these species won't have enough habitat left.
Already the Goverment has destroyed large areas of corridors in Western Sydney for housing estates in the past few years and now is the time to say enough is enough.
Here in Australia we have the fastest extinction rate in the world and in the last few years, the Goverment has done everything to keep that statistic.
In return for cutting down mature forests this Goverment has offered planting trees on road nature strips as an alternative and solution although these trees take atleast 80 years to form hollows that many of these native species need to survive.
