Dear Rep. Rangel and Senator Espaillat:

Roosevelt “Rosey” Spivey opened the historic Marble Hill Unisex Barbershop on June 15, 1962, just a few months after graduating from barber college. God willing, on June 15, 2015 Mr. Spivey will celebrate 53 years of cutting the hair of grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Marble Hill residents. To this day Rosey’s Barbershop located at 151 West 228th Street even has the same cash register and provides affordable, quality haircuts to the Marble Hill community and beyond.

Mr. Spivey is the pillar of the Marble Hill community, where many have come and continue to come from near and far to absorb his humbleness, wisdom, and gracious aura whether for a haircut or just shooting the breeze.  Mr. Spivey is not only Marble Hill’s barber but also father, brother, uncle, cousin and a dear friend.

When Mr. Spivey mentioned he received a 30-day eviction notice from his new landlord, for the first time ever when I looked into his face I saw the look of a "lost little boy". The look on his face truly brought tears to my face, as he realized the possibility of losing his home after 53 years of hard labor, no complaints, no crimes, no tarnishing, no fights, no disrespecting, but simply using his God-given talent of cutting hair and providing a place for the community.

Now it's the time to help a friend, a brother and our angel who's in need of lifting. We are asking for your help to protect Roosevelt “Rosey” Spivey from losing his respectable establishment, which we feel is not only a pillar of the community, but also a historical landmark of Marble Hill.

We only ask that Mr. Spivey is recognized and will be given a fair chance and option to continue his respected legacy without being evicted. Thank you for your consideration and please feel free to contact me to discuss this issue further.

Thank You and God Bless,

Brother Edmar Flores
