Save Manyana

This petition had 6,747 supporters

Manyana is under serious threat from uncontrolled and inappropriate housing development which will destroy the community of Manyana and the village itself. Massive land clearance is planned and the coastal woodland forest, which is a powerhouse of biodiversity, will forever be destroyed and bring about the potential extinction of the Sugar Glider, Yellow Bellied Glider, Greater Glider (an already endangered species), as well as the Powerful Owl and a host of other wildlife and birdlife within this area.

Manyana will simply not be able to cope with the sheer growth in population. This will bring about the demise of the village and forever remove its positive community spirit, its heritage and its natural beauty.

There is a danger that Manyana will become an urban development like Shellharbour, with no biodiversity or sustainability. There has been minimal community consultation about these developements. We will not compromise our national heritage nor permit any further ecological disasters to take place in Manyana. We are seeking support nationally and internationally.

Australia has the highest extinction rate in the world. Land clearing is the single biggest factor in bringing about climate change. So why are we going down this road? We have a moral obligation to protect these remaining coastal woodland forests which are disappearing at an alarming rate. We need to take action and protect it NOW.
