This will be detrimental to The Long Hungry Creek farm which has been in opperation since 1974 by Jeff Poppen aka "The Barefoot Farmer" The farm would ultimatley have to close because of the impact the CAFO would creat. His farm provides for lots of schools and communities. He also provides education to numerous orginizations and the public on how to have a self sustainable farm. Here is link to The Long Hungry Creek farm website with details on the situation. Any extar help would be much appreciated. There are also 2 different documentries in the works on the situation.
I just signed the following petition addressed to: Cobb-Vantress/ Tyson.
Tyson (Cobb-Vantress) has already built and plans to opperate a CAFO (contained animal feeding opperation) 400 feet from Long Hungry Creek farm, the largest and oldest of its kind in the state.
This will be detrimental to The Long Hungry Creek farm which has been in opperation since 1974 by Jeff Poppen aka "The Barefoot Farmer". The farm would ultimatley have to move/close because of the impact the CAFO would create. It also posses huge risks for the land and waters of the surrounding communities. Cobb-Vantress will NOT inform people of these risks and in fact cover them up. There are already numerous states that have banned CAFO's outright because of the negative impacts they have.
His farm is very important to many people and provides food for numerous school, communities and people in need. Jeff also provides education to many different orginizations and the public on how to have a self sustainable farm. Here is link to The Long Hungry Creek farm website with details on the situation. Any extra help would be much appreciated. There are also 2 different documentries in the works on the subject. Please sign and or write a little stating your concerns.

To the executives of Cobb-Vantress:
We respectfully ask you to not locate chicken houses within 1500 feet of Long Hungry Creek Gardens and Farm, with reasons as follows:
The proposed houses are too close to and will affect the business of Long Hungry Creek Farm and Gardens.
There is ample room to move the houses back another 1000 feet where they will not be as much of a nuisance to the Farm.
This business feeds hundreds of people, including CSA members, those in need, and the community at large. Many people will be negatively impacted and upset if this business is shut down.
This facility will drain directly into the spring that supplies the farm’s drinking water, and the pristine Long Hungry Creek, which has earned special recognition by the state for its “exceptional biodiversity”.
Building your first house in the area in violation of your own 1500 foot requirement does not lay positive groundwork for future operations in Macon county.
On your website you list your company values of Family, Integrity, and Being the Best; you claim to work and communicate with people in the same way you expect others to treat you. To be impartial and respectful. To expect and provide honest communication and interaction at all times. To comply with all laws and regulations. We are asking for nothing more than for you to live up to these values: to respect Jeff Poppen and the Long Hungry Creek Farm and Gardens as the business it is, and to follow your own company guidelines as to the appropriate placement and operation of your houses.
