Save London Buses from Draconian Cuts

Save London Buses from Draconian Cuts
London Buses are an essential part of a public transport system in a busy city of nearly 9 million people.
However since the pandemic there has been an ongoing battle on how public transport in London between TFL (transport for London) under the auspices of Labour mayor Sadiq Kahn and Conservative Central government is funded.
This has now reached breaking point in terms of how London buses will be funded and operated in future.
The government is refusing to fund London buses as they are currently and have demanded TFL show prudence in their budgets .
This has led to TFL announcing a major consultation to London’s bus network that could see 16 routes totally axed from the capital. Some 250 buses could be removed from the service with additional changes to 78 bus routes in what is the biggest set of cuts the London bus network has seen in decades.
Jobs will be lost across London bus garages and the public across London will be affected by these draconian proposals.
The cuts will again affect the poorest sectors of society the most. The bus provides cost effective travel, the tube for many does not.
Also in these times of climate change and a need to become carbon neutral, cuts to essential bus services taking cars off the road seem to make little sense .
This petition calls for a non partisan approach to finding a solution that keeps London buses on the road, all the routes flagged to be cut to be kept running and above all those MPs, councillors and others in positions of authority who represent Londoners of no matter which political hue, to stop playing political games and find a solution quickly to remove these cuts and alterations and develop a strong London bus network and grow use of public transport in the capital (not make short sighted cuts which will effect so many people).
