We, the undersigned, respectfully request our representatives to support the "SEASON Act, H.R. 2004". This legislation was introduced to reform the H-2B guest worker program through the addition of the "returning worker" provision.
The H-2B program allows small businesses to thrive and prosper in peak times. These temporary guest workers legally satisfy the demand for seasonal employees. This is a critical need throughout Louisiana's traditional seafood processing sectors: oysters, crawfish, shrimp and blue crab.
Pontchartrain Blue Crab, Inc. is one such processor currently with no H-2B work visas. Without much needed reform, Pontchartrain will cease to operate. The economic effects will be severe. Millions of pounds of Louisiana seafood will go unprocessed. The local fishermen will have no market for the their catch. Dock prices will be deflated. Purchase orders and local supply will not be met. The local market will lose business to imports. The regional economy will suffer. Employees will be laid off. Jobs will be lost.
The concerned citizens, employees, business owners, customers, business partners, and associates of Pontchartrain Blue Crab, Inc. urge our leaders to act now and support the SEASON Act H.B. 2004.
