I have lived in Albany in the Great Southern of Western Australia since 2006. I love Albany, the community and my home. I live in Mira Mar.My husband and I built a home in Lower King and then later sold and built a home in Mira Mar. We have raised a family in Albany and built our forever home here.Behind our house, is three retired couples. They too have invested in this lovely region recognising its beauty and friendly community.Unfortunatley behind their houses, two houses have collapsed after water mains burst and the earth decided to progressively breakdown beneath them.Theses poor families have had to relocate and most insurers will not support costs of loss of homes as they do not support loss of homes with “ landslide”. In this instance though, the land slip is not due to natural causes but rather burst water mains which eroded the hill side. Unfortunately council, the state, Water Corpration will not take responsibility. It has been almost one year since the two houses were evacuated and still the houses have not been demolished and site restored to ensure community safety. Now the three houses behind me are at severe risk too and residents have been advised to leave. It will only be a matter of time before these retirees loose their homes too. Then my home is next. I have three children, two in Year 11 and 12 and this house is the only capital investment we have. The Prime Minister announced he will support Swan River bridge at total $100 million in partnership with Premier, Mark McGowan, yet he won’t invest and support local infrastructure, save peoples homes. He speaks of increasing jobs. But does he mean in Perth with unnecessary bridge or all over Australia by supporting local infrastructures and economies with local issues. By signing this petition, you acknowledge the unnecessary waste of tax payers money on walkways/bridges and advocate for the government to step up, support local Australia infrastructures, fix local problems and support local peoples. In this instance address the slip and loss of homes. By fixing the land, further house loss will be prevented
