Lees Co-op is due to close on November 5th 2022. A new store is expected to replace it eventually under a different company, but as the building is due to be demolished and a new one build this will leave Lees without a local supermarket for at least 12-18 months. The worker at the Co-op are also being made redundant. 
We call for: 

• The purchasers of the land for the new store to find ways to open a temporary store (even though smaller) on part of the site or nearby until the permanent one opens
• Co-op (as the employer) to press the purchasers to employ the Lees staff and avoid redundancy, finding them other roles meanwhile if necessary
• Oldham Council to work with residents to explore means of keeping local supermarket facilities in Lees
