We, the undersigned, are writing to express our strongest dissent towards the proposal by your department to de-gazette 930.93 ha of Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve for a mixed development project (including housing). There is currently a glut in the housing market, but a dire shortage of natural reserves required for sustaining air quality, water supply, and other basic physical needs (flood control) in Selangor.

You are well aware that congestion, air pollution, and water shortages are serious problems that daily affect the quality of life of residents in this already-overdeveloped state. Now more than ever we need the support of our natural forests for our physical and mental health.

This forest reserve is home to the Temuan tribe, who have lived here for hundreds of years. This rich forest also supports critically endangered species such as the Malayan Sun Bear, Selangor Pygmy Flying Squirrel and the rare Langat Red Fighting Fish. Please protect this forest for the people, animals, and trees that live here.

The financial rewards reaped from destroying the forest will benefit only a few people; the life support system that will be sustained by protecting the forest reserve will benefit everyone, including your own children and grandchildren.

We therefore urge the Menteri Besar of Selangor to scrap the proposed Kuala Langat development project immediately and irrevocably. Please defend our natural forest reserves: we, the rakyat, place our trust in you to protect the life support system that we depend upon.
