Petition Closed

Oppose SB 2927, which is a state bill relating to community planning. This bill would exempt landowners from existing county zoning laws around a bus transit station or rail transit station.

The Department of Transportation Services (DTS) plans to put bus transit centers throughout Oahu's communities such as Kailua, Kaneohe, Haleiwa, Mililani, Wahiawa, Kapolei, Ewa, Waipahu, Pearl City, Makiki, Kahala, Salt Lake, Kalihi, and Aiea.

Since the area around such transit stations would not have to abide by existing county zoning laws, landowners could build hotels, skyscrapers, or tall buildings in such areas.

Therefore, passage of SB 2927 could have potentially detrimental effects on Hawaii's communities by allowing unwanted development.
