Please co-sponsor and/or support for the H2B Visa program. This very effective program designed to help employers hire a legal seasonal workforce has been impacted this year with the elimination of the Returning Worker Exemption and the long time visa limit of only 66,000 visas.
- With half the yearly allocations being used up in early January and the balance by mid-March, it is clear that the 66,000 slots are too few to meet the demand of reputable employers seeking to expand their operations.
- The H-2B visa program should be expanded as it provides a legal means for foreign workers to enter the US to do seasonal work that sufficient numbers of Americans are not willing to perform, and return to their countries when the work is completed. A program that is too small encourages illegal immigration and the hiring of undocumented workers.
- The H-2B visa program provides protections for foreign and US workers, and the availability of sufficient numbers of H-2B workers enable U.S. businesses to operate at a greater capacity, retaining and adding full-time workers and otherwise making greater contributions to their local economies. Every H-2B worker is estimated to create and sustain 4.64 American jobs.
