Why this petition matters

Today, November 1st, the City of Miami Parks without any prior mention or warning, decided to raise the prices of tennis court rentals effective November 7th (Less than a week's notice) without giving any reason whatsoever and without making any modifications for the betterment of the facility.

See attached the new prices

Price increase notice

Note the teaching fee difference, what used to be $12 or $17 for an adult resident taking a lesson will go up to $50, a 340% to 416% increase. If 3 people take a lesson together it will go from $16 or $21 to $90, a 428% to 562.5%  increase.

What the city of Miami is trying to do here is to stop lessons at the parks, since these prices are outrageous (note they don't include whatever the coach fee is, this is just a charge to use the court).

Morningside park tennis center only gets busy with leisure players (no lesson takers) after 6 pm, before that it basically only coaches kids and adults learning the beautiful game of tennis, if this rule goes into effect, what is going to happen during the day? Having a park full of empty courts?

For what???

Tennis lessons are vital for the development of kids and adults that want to enjoy the sport, have a healthy life, and learn skills that can only be learned by playing a sport, such as Tennis.

What this rule is doing is discriminating against beginners and kids, who can only play tennis by taking lessons.

Furthermore, the city is making the pricing unaffordable for individuals to have regular lessons that will allow children and adults to learn the sport. Even more relevant, studies have shown the importance of exercise and involvement in sports for children and the city is making the ability for children to learn tennis from a coach, possible to only a few. Without proper direction from an expert to learn and excel, a child will lose interest in the sport leading to less exercise, lower self-esteem, and less movement. The city of Miami should have its residents'/children's best interests in mind. This change passed by the commission shows the exact opposite. It is one-sighted and is focused on control, rather than the well-being of the neighbors of the public tennis courts inside the city.

Help us by signing this petition and reversing the outrageous new pricing that will stop kids and adults from having a healthier lifestyle!

Update, November 3rd, over 650 signatures in less than 36 hours, what we, coaches, parents, residents, and enthusiasts are requesting is a revision of pricing, to something reasonable that would allow Tennis to be affordable, the modifications are making tennis lessons reach an unseen level of expensiveness, lessons in Miami would become more expensive than NYC, LA, Paris, and any Country Club in the nation.

Let's review for Fair pricing! Don't penalize people just because they want to learn! Instead, incentivise people to have a healthy Lifestyle!
