According to WHO, Rare diseases are often serious, chronic and life-threatening. The European Union (EU) definition of a rare disease is one that affects fewer than 5 in 10 000 people. At present, more than 6000 rare diseases are known; around 80% of them are genetic disorders and half of them occur during childhood. Its really good decision by the Government to bring National Policy for Treatment of Rare Diseases, 2017. India has recorded 450 of such rare diseases, according to the NPTRD 2017. But delay in implementation of this policy cause many families to loss their children who are suffering from rare diseases. So, lets request centre, state governments to identify patients suffering from rare diseases as early as possible and implement this policy 100%.
