On June 20th, after a six month campaign to save our school, LaSalle Regional School closed its doors - forever. While we were not able to convince the Diocese to reverse their decision, we remain committed to ensuring the Diocese reverses their trend. As the last 20 years has proved, closing schools does not strengthen the Catholic educationsystem; it weakens it. Please stay united with us in our ongoingcampaign for the future of Catholic education and for the future of our Church

Although the closing of the schools are of great concern to us it is the general state of Catholic elementary education in the Diocese that is of paramount concern.

In Pope John Paul II’s 1999 Exhortation The Church in America, he stated that Catholic schools play a vital role in the evangelizing mission of the Church.

Catholic high schools receive at least 60% of their enrollment from the Catholic elementary schools. With the systematic elimination of the elementary level schools, it is only a matter of time before the Catholic high schools are dramatically affected.

Studies have established that vocations, lay Catholic educators, and others who serve the Church in a variety of ministries have the common thread of a Catholic education in their backgrounds. The diocese has closed six catholic elementary school on Long Island. This is not the direction we want to go. Save our schools-save our childrens future

Letter to
Rockville Center Diocese, Bishop Murphy
I just signed the following petition addressed to: Rockville Center Diocese, Bishop Murphy.

June 20th , 2012

The Most Reverend William Murphy
Bishop of Rockville Centre
50 North Park Avenue
Rockville Centre, NY 11571-9023

Your Excellency:

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - - I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference”
(Robert Frost)

We write to you today in the spirit of harmony, as Catholic to Catholic united in a common goal – securing the future of Catholic education on Long Island.

We are at a crossroads in terms of Catholic elementary education. There are two paths in front of us. One we know. It is the path of consolidation and closure. As the last few decades demonstrate, it is difficult to reverse course from this path and it is our grave concern that if we continue along this route it is to the detriment of our children, the future of Catholic elementary education and ultimately our faith.
