Yew may have anti-carcinogenic properties that should be further explored. Also it is an excellent, traditional material for making bows. Which we may yet need in future disputes with the French (viz. Poitiers, Crecy and Agincourt). Increase the fine for felling and bring them under statutory protection.

Another historic and ecological giant to be extinct if chopping down keeps going.

Britain's ancient yew trees are increasingly coming under threat as redundant Church property passes out of church ownership and canon law.

We cannot allow the destruction of ancient trees .They should be protected by law as they are an invaluable part of our heritage.

Whilst church burial grounds are being sold off, which in itself is appalling, cemeteries would be a suitable habitat for the Yew with Protection Orders attached. Care must be taken in their positioning. They are revered by many, as well they should, but it must also be remembered the berries and leaves are poisonous.

I'm surprised there's not already a protection order on them! This needs to be sorted out before we lose any more of our heritage.
