Because “we” seem to take joy in destroying the natural world; the more delicate or irreplaceable something is the more we want to build over it. Ancient things cannot be replaced and so should be protected.

Most yew trees for example are far older than we are and have experienced and lived through centuries of human development, we humans should respect our elders and protect our trees.
