Save Bohanam House

Nick Herbert started this petition to Councillor Carole Allaway-Martin (Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care Commisioning)

As has been widely reported Bohanam House is facing closure, with a six-week, Gloucestershire County Council led, consultation period underway.

The aim of this petition is to gather signatures of those people who are opposed to the proposed closure, and the reasons why they are against it.

Bohanam House is a much loved care home, and an integral part of the community.

It’s potential closure will have a massive impact on its many dedicated staff, but more so on the vulnerable residents who call this place ‘home’.

As a team at Bohanam we feel this potential closure is for all the wrong reasons.

The council have cited dwindling occupancy levels and an overall lack of demand as key reasons behind the proposal, but given we are just emerging from a global pandemic it all feels very convenient.

We feel Bohanam House is being ‘picked on’, as it is a comparatively smaller and less ‘modern’ home, but it is for these reasons why Bohanam possesses such a warm and homely feel.

The council have the power to save Bohanam, and with a little support help it return to the high occupancy levels it enjoyed pre-pandemic, and thus be the financially viable institute that is in everybody’s interests.

If Bohanam survives, the county and local community retains a valuable asset which sits a stones throw away from the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

If we lose Bohanam, then the residents, who have just lived through an awful pandemic, face another devastating upheaval to their lives.

We urge Gloucestershire County Council to make the right choice when the final decision is taken in June, and retain one of the county’s best care facilities.
