Objection to demolition - Planning application number 17/0555/22.
We, the undersigned, wish to object to the proposed demolition of Block F, the former woodworking block of Coed Y Lan Secondary School, Tyfica Road, Pontypridd.
Historical significance of the building
The former Coed Y Lan Secondary School, built in 1893-4, is Grade II listed as of important significance, historically, culturally and architecturally and is in a prominent position in Pontypridd. Block F is included in the curtilage of this listing (not listed on its own but as part of the school site.) Block F was built at the same time, of the same materials, and has the same character and prominent position as the rest of the listed site.
Grounds for objection to demolition
We object to the demolition of the building in that it will have an adverse impact on the character of the local area. Additionally, Block F currently provides screening from the modern development behind it, which is not in keeping with the surrounding area and listed buildings. The removal of Block F would further bring to prominence the modern development behind the block, resulting in the destruction of the character of the local area and the listed site.
