Petition update

Mission Accomplished

Oct 7, 2016 — What's up, guys. Hope everyone had a good week.

My peers and I have been working proactively with Central Atlanta Progress, the Georgia Department of Transportation, and the Office of Cultural Affairs for the past week to reach a solution beneficial for all parties involved. Yesterday afternoon, we settled on an agreement that recognizes Atlanta skateboarders' contributions to Folk Art Park, without devaluing the surrounding area.

According to Camille Love, Executive Director of the City of Atlanta - Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs, "the artwork, Quilt Traditions, which is undergoing restoration, will be off limits to the skateboarding community. Skateboarders will be allowed to skate on the Floor pattern and the black seating structures." In layman's terms, the artwork on display at Black Blocks isn't the entire area, but only the metal canopy structure currently under restoration, which we will unfortunately lose access to. However, after the construction is over, the concrete benches, the flatground, and the dividing walls will remain ours to skate as we please, hassle-free. The fences are expected to come down in April 2017. We'll keep everyone updated as more information becomes available.

Obviously, the events of the past week took precedent over compiling a zine and mailing out t-shirts. We'd like to apologize for the delay in following through with our promises to you, and thank you for both your support and your patience. Both have been an invaluable tool throughout this entire ordeal.

Looking forward to seeing you all next spring!
