We, the undersigned, petition the Government of British Columbia to stop its wolf- kill program immediately.

On January 15, 2015, the B.C. government gave the go-ahead for a controversial wolf hunt in the South Selkirk and South Peace regions. Today, six years later, over a thousand wolves have been culled to ostensibly protect B.C.’s endangered mountain caribou.

Decades of habitat destruction and human encroachment have left B.C.’s mountain caribou on the edge of survival. Instead of protecting critical food and habitat for caribou, such as the lichen rich interior forests, the B.C. government has placed the blame on wolves. Wolves are now being targeted for aerial killing and expanded legalized hunting and trapping of wolves. These highly social and intelligent animals, icons of our natural heritage, should not be killed because of government negligence. Killing all the wolves in B.C. won’t bring the caribou back in the absence of habitat protection.

Wolves are social animals which are integral to ecosystem function. It is the view of Pacific Wild that they deserve protection and should not be exterminated because the B.C. government has continually failed to protect and recover enough habitat for caribou. Gross mismanagement of species at risk in B.C., a province with no endangered species law, results in unethical culls of predators and competing species, such as cougars and moose. There are solutions and alternatives to protecting B.C.'s caribou, but killing animals should not be one of them.

Please add your voice to #SaveBCWolves to petition the B.C. government to stop its wolf-cull program and share this opportunity broadly. Together we can help stop this unethical and ineffective wolf kill.

May 13, 2021: Our wolf cull court dates have been set for July. During the first quarter of 2021, Pacific Wild has continued to push forward in its legal case against the B.C. government. After months of delays related to the pressures that COVID-19 has had on our legal system, the case is finally set to be heard by the courts on July 7th and 8th.

Recently, Pacific Wild shared news that the B.C. government killed 237 wolves as part of its wolf cull program this winter, despite the court challenge on the legality of the aerial practice remaining unresolved. This information was picked up in a new article from The National Observer. Read our full press release on the matter.

March 25, 2021: Pacific Wild is broadening the #SaveBCWolves campaign to address recreational sport hunting / trophy hunting of wolves and the lack of reporting on wolf kills throughout British Columbia by hunters and trappers. We are pushing the government to expand the wildlife management decision makers' table to include independent wolf biologists and conservation organizations representing non-hunting stakeholders, and the tourism industry benefiting from wolves in biodiverse ecosystems.

March 15, 2021The courts have been operating at a very limited capacity due to COVID-19, and at this time we are still waiting for a hearing date to be set. The silver lining to waiting for our arguments to be heard: NO aerial gunning has taken place this year to date, saving the lives of hundreds of wolves.⁣

Securing our legal counsel in this matter would not have been possible without the support of your generous donations. Thank you for helping us #SaveBCWolves this winter.
