Save Australian Snakes - Legislative Reform to Protect Snakes and Prosecute Cruelty
Snakes are native to the Australian landscape, and are pivotal members of our fauna and precious ecosystem.
As native animals, they are ‘protected’ by legislation.
Every day, however, snakes are cruelly and illegally injured or killed by people who do not understand snakes, and the important role they play in our environment.
Sadly, not all animals are equal in Australia. Whilst killing a native snake should result in the same penalty as killing a koala, it doesn’t. Even though they are ‘protected’. Often, people who kill or injure snakes do not face prosecution.
We want to protect native snakes, and ensure that there is legislative reform, offering them more safety under the law, and ensuring that people who purposefully injure or kill snakes are prosecuted for their cruel, unethical, and illegal acts.
