To the recipients of this statement:
We have recently been made aware of the fact that there has been a decision at Mayo High School to terminate the influential class of American Studies.
We cannot stress enough the importance of this class and the appreciation for learning that this class has given students. The combined-class schedule format is one unlike any other, and gives students a unique experience that develops important life skills. The dynamic and the environment created by the class as well as the teachers themselves have empowered students and have helped them achieve things that they wouldn’t have been able to otherwise.
Although students may often complain of the rigors of the class, the parties involved recognize that the combination of these two classes is one of the best ways that Mayo High School prepares students for tertiary education and a competitive job environment. Student representatives have talked with various members of the staff and the administration at Mayo High School regarding the issue, and feel that they have not been given the full information on the process that led to this decision. The aforementioned student representatives have communicated with various American Studies students, both current and former, as well as students who are planning to take the course, whether next year or in the future, and all are strongly in favor of keeping the current format.
As such, we, the undersigned, strongly concur with the statement listed below:
We, the undersigned, are concerned current students, former students, and parents of Mayo High School who strongly urge the staff and administration of Mayo High School not to change the structure of the class of American Studies as it has existed during the past several years.
