Helderberg Neighborhood Association started this petition to Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer Louis DeJoy and

Post offices provide essential services critical to the vitality of our neighborhoods and city. There is a beautiful, new post office temporarily located at 363 Ontario St. in the heart of Albany. We have learned from the property owner of 363 Ontario St. that the United State Postal Service’s lease for Academy Station Post Office ends in  February 2022.

Albany residents have lost three post offices over the past twelve years, and we cannot afford to lose another. Closing Academy Station will leave one-third of the City without a post office. This closure will create hardship for all neighbors, but especially low-income residents, seniors, people with disabilities, small businesses, non-profit organizations, and others. Yet the United States Postal Service (USPS) seems ready to close Academy Station without community notification or consultation – when most people aren’t even aware of the current location.

A group of neighborhood associations is working together to save the Academy Station Post Office. We are asking USPS to:

  1. Continue operating Academy Station until a permanent location is chosen;
  2. Ensure the public knows that Academy Station Post Office is located at 363 Ontario Street; and
  3. Sign a long-term lease to ensure that Academy Station remains in our community.

We need our post office. We love our post office. Save our post office!

Sincerely,

Council of Albany Neighborhood Associations
