SAVE A 100-200 YEAR OLD LIVE OAK TREE!!!

There is a lovely old (100-200 year old) Live Oak tree on Virginia Beach city property (in Chics Beach, corner of Chubb Lake & Bayview Avenues). The city has all but decided to take it down.....saying a neighbor complained about it.

The Chesapeake Beach Civic League decided unanimously on 8/21/17 to petition to Save the Tree....every neighbor we spoke with wants to save the tree. A certified arborist  (not the city arborist) evaluated the tree & said it can be saved. We have reached out the city offering options & a viable plan to save it, creating a Win-Win for everyone. We are now in discussions with the city on solutions.

We have taken it to the community-at-large, using this petition (YAY!) as one of our vehicles. Channel 13 News & Channel 10 WAVY News both aired stories on the community efforts & desires to "Save the Tree" the week of 21-25 August 2017. The Virginian Pilot interviewed us & is running a story in the paper on the week of the 28th - watch for it!

These lovely ancient trees represent SO many great (& intangible) things - they are an integral part of the remarkable & rich (& vanishing - sadly enough) heritage of our WONDERFUL Virginia Beach! Every tree that is saved helps to preserve our heritage.

HUG A TREE TODAY! BETTER YET, SAVE ONE/SAVE ALL OF THEM!!! Our future depends on them. Thanks ;)

Please sign this petition & share it with others! Thank you!!!!
