Hello, we are working artists at 100 braid st. studios and we are desperate to preserve the building in which we work. 12 ft or more high ceilings, gorgeous high windows and a large coupela with 360 degree views. It was built in 1929 , it is the last industrial heritage building that is intact in New Westminster.   It was on the heritage tour this year. It even has a plaque stating that it is a heritage building. Everyone was delighted when they stepped inside this light filled building. It is slated for demo and it is absolutely tragic that a simple plaque is sufficient, that this gorgeous building that has so much to offer the city in terms of the arts and space for special events like weddings and pop-up galleries. Wesgroup Developments has covenented 4300 square feet to the city for art studios and a gallery. Wesgroup has shown that it is a supporter of the community of New Westminster and the arts. I believe that if they understand the importance of the building they will not demolish it. We are not opposed to the re-development but hope they will enhance it with this building. Pleae find a way to Pevent the demolition but rather have this building included in the plans for high rise and townhouses. It could be a the Granville island of New West. We need to undertake this petition as a means to prevent it's demolition; it is a really unique building. This space is unique in itself but also unique in terms of one of it being the last of the industrial heritage buildings in New Westminster. The brewery district is but a name. It is sad to think such a heritage minded city would demolish this building. please sign this petition and same all that is beautiful for future generations. What will you tell you grandson or daughter when they see the plaque but wonder where this building is? Prevent this beautiful building from becoming part of a landfill. Old growth forest is part of the structure of the building. Artists:Judith Copland, Tony Durke, Omanie Elias, Richael Hatala, Ross Hayduk, Karen Justice, Victoria Klassen, Iris Mes-Low, Jenna Mhairie, Mardell Rampton, John Salterio, Fiona Tang, Terra Varey, Judy Villet Associated artists: MIchael King, CLiff Blank, Carla Thompson, Gillian Wright, Brenda Hatch, Nathalie Dignard.
