Some 1,000 pine trees in Ampassit and Longlong, La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines are within an area intended for a Benguet State University (BSU) housing project. The BSU housing association has now applied for a building permit.

Trees must be planted and those living be preserved. Without trees, erosion and landslides could kill lives and destroy property as we witnessed in the disaster of 2009.

The association could find a place to build their houses without having to cut a tree.
