To be honest, I'd not heard of this man until I was sent this petition. However, my recent passion has been discovering Victorian/Edwardian ghost story authors who might have passed into obscurity were it not for dedicated folks re-publishing their long-lost works. And most are well-worth recirculating and keeping alive. And so likewise, why obliterate this man's legacy? Keep the park named for him so the curious can discover him. Mysteries, histories, children's books, sci-fi and romance? Most modern authors don't have this scope for Heaven's sake!

August Derleth is a 20th century American literary institution! He not only created the Sherlockian sleuth Solar Pons and left a legacy of his own fictional and non-fictional works, but helped preserve the literary legacy of H P Lovecraft. Sauk City should be doing MORE, not less, to honor him!

Derleth is extremely important in the history of American literature due to his founding Arkham House which preserved and disseminated HP Lovecraft's works to a larger audience. Lovecraft remains one of the most popular names in literature in 2019--thanks in large part to Derleth. Sauk City should be holding an annual festival in his honor instead of stripping honors away.

August Derleth is a big part of literary history, and the memorializing of his name (regarding the park) should not be revoked.

His name is worthy of recognition for his contribution to little known authors who may have gone on to eclipse his own ....H.P. Lovecraft, anyone??
