Schools are not preparing students well enough for their futures. Students will need exposure to open discussions and experiences that can help them feel comfortable communicating with others. Young people need to learn new skills for the current and future workplace that will make them ready to collaborate with others. Students need high-touch personal interactions every day to build healthy social-emotional skills, including the ability to understand and communicate with others. Solutions already being used is that most high schools offer college classes that help prepare students for the future throughout high school, which also helps them learn key life skills that will help them throughout their lives depending on the course and that also help you complete the credits you need in order to graduate. Schools already expose students to valuable skills such as perseverance, responsibility, and social skills, they do not account for the skills used in day-to-day life, but schools offer classes that teach students how much to tip in a restaurant, how to prepare for a job interview, write a resume, or even how to pay common bills, but they are not required to teach them or require students to take them. Classes like Avid/Reach help students prepare for going into a four year university straight out of high school and help prepare with taking the SAT, ACT, CAASPP, and the college application essays. Other Skills such as resilience, communication and leadership are just some of the areas that are essential when facing the challenges of the 21st century job. Some schools bring core life skills in the curriculum and leave out subject areas in the curriculum that are not helpful to students or helpful to their future for the sake of time. Schools also try to help students with careers with the career pathways program, in where counselors come in classes and help students pick out careers, but still only about one in five young people in the 12- to 22-year age range express a clear vision of where they want to go and what they want to accomplish in life. School should be able to help students decide what they want to do as a career and help them learn key values in life, and key skills that they will need to use most of their life.
