Saudi Arabia: Free Aid Worker Abdul Rahman al-Sadhan

Saudi Arabia: Free Aid Worker Abdul Rahman al-Sadhan
Why this petition matters

Saudi Arabia arbitrarily detained humanitarian aid worker Abdul Rahman al-Sadhan on 12 March 2018 for peacefully criticizing the government on Twitter and advocating for civil and human rights.
Please join us to call for Abdul Rahman’s immediate and unconditional release and demand that King Salman free AbdulRahman today.
In 2018, Abdul Rahman was detained from the Saudi Red Crescent HQ in Riyadh, without a warrant and was taken to an unknown location. For nearly two years his family had no information about his whereabouts or well-being.
After 3 years of enforced disappearance and torture, the Saudi Government brought him to a secret sham trial without the presence of a lawyer or family and was handed a list of trumped up charges.
On April 5, 2021, the Special Criminal Court (SCC) in Riyadh sentenced Abdul Rahman to 20 years in prison, to be followed by 20 years travel ban, on charges relating to his peaceful online activism. In a trial marred by gross violations of international fair trial guarantees, including the hearings being held in secret and denying Abdul Rahman from access to legal counsel. He faced spurious charges that included “preparing, storing and sending material prejudicial to public order and religious values", based on peaceful satirical tweets.
During the 4 years Abdul Rahman has been in Saudi Prison, he has been tortured, held in solitary confinement, barred from family communication and denied access to a fair trial.
Please join Abdul Rahman's family and supporters in calling for his immediate and unconditional release #FreeSadhan
