Gaylon Alcaraz started this petition to CEO Patrick O'Malley, Saucony and

This petition is to ask both Saucony and Brooks Running retail companies to recognize the Independence Day of Freedom for Black people in America, by developing  a "Juneteenth" Kinvara and Ghost edition shoe.  Both companies have highlighted and created different shoes for July 4th holiday.  Not only that, both companies have utilized the retail platform to highlight other "special" events, such as the "Boston Marathon", the "Tokyo edition" the "Chicago" and "NYC" editions, the "Unity Breast Cancer Awareness" "Rainbow PRIDE" and the "St. Patrick's Day" shoes, just to name a few.

Black buying power is at an all time high and it is time for retailers to not only respect the power of the black dollar, but cater to a population that they have ignored.  As a recent article suggests, "Industry watchers and activists say that the problem remains persistent and retailers must do more to examine how they treat and cater to Black customers."  Further, "not only is diversity is good for business, it is the right thing to", as stated by Richelle Parham, of the WestRiver Group.

As a runner, I spend a great deal of money on not only races, but everything that comes with that - my race gear (running attire, socks, hydration and nutrition, and shoes) and I do that throughout the year.  Because of this, I would like items that highlight who I am as a runner.  Everything cannot be white centered. It is time for a Juneteenth shoe!

Juneteenth – also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day, and Emancipation Day – is a holiday celebrating the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the United States (Wikipedia).

If we have a July 4th shoe - (that actually doesn't represent freedom for all), why can't we also have a Juneteenth shoe that celebrates the freedom of Black people, as well?  Both shoes can exist!  Both shoes can be highlighted by runners!  Help bring our unicorn to life - a Kinvara Juneteenth and a Ghost Juneteenth shoe!
