Dear Sir,

This is to bring to your notice the extreme perils that citizens have to undergo to access even basic facilities and public places  such as markets due to poor management and hazardous lanes and footpath conditions.

I am a 35 year old woman residing in the city. Last Sunday I had been to the Central Market, Lajpat Nagar II for shopping. While leaving the market I had to go through one of the metal detectors as this was the only exit towards the metro and the rest of the road was blocked with metal barricades. Just as I crossed the detector I landed on an uneven section, more of a patched up hole on the otherwise metalled road and fell down. Passerbyes helped me get up. The place was poorly lit. Other unsuspecting visitors like me probably had also taken a fall at the same location before and after me.The fall resulted in a fracture in my left foot and bound to house for a month.

Most of our markets are not accessible by people with special needs and even older people. With unnecessary barricades, creating hazard by poor placement of barricade,  potholes, poor build and upkeep of footpaths and roads our market place and other public places are a health hazard and places straight out of nightmares. Unmaintained footpaths, potholes, and lanes in public places are  a hazard to the limbs and life of citizens and creating pressure for our overburdened health facilities.

Through this petition I want to draw your attention and that of the civic authorities to perform their duty and make our roads, footpaths and public places fall-free, less health hazardous and more accessible and safe to all age groups and the differently abled. When we are talking of making our cities smart, these basics matter the most.
