Decision Maker Response

Arvind Kejriwal’s response

Feb 4, 2020 — I have received this petition started by Mahak, and am glad to see citizens involved in taking action to make Delhi a better city for all of us. I can proudly say that the Delhi government has built around 22,000 new and well maintained public toilets through the DUSIB (Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board).

There was a need for 27,000 community toilets in the slums of Delhi of which the DUSIB has constructed 22,000. The remaining toilets will be constructed within a year.

Water, sanitation and hygiene remain a top priority for the Delhi government, and we continue to work towards making sure every Delhi resident has access to a clean toilet.

We had also announced that no user charges would be levied for these toilets in JJ Colonies, to ensure that more people use them. While we are working towards improving the usability of these toilets to truly make Delhi an open-defecation free state, we will also ensure proper hygiene and maintenance of these toilets in our action plan. The vision of my government for the next 5 years is summarized in the 10 guarantees and our manifesto for Delhi assembly elections. (

I invite you to stay updated on the work we are doing by following us on Twitter @ArvindKejriwal.
