Grade 12’s this year have experienced one of the worst graduation years in history. Due to the pandemic we have had our entire year ruined, and many of us were looking forward to having a grad outside where we could see everyone again one more time. We haven’t seen some of our classmates since grade 11 and we were promised by Regina Public School’s that we would be having a graduation at Mosaic Stadium. 

Mosaic Stadium would be the best place for a graduation in Regina. Our numbers in Regina are some of the best in Canada, and our vaccination numbers are super high. So what’s stopping our grad from being held there?  We could 100% put 350 chairs socially distant on the field and have a stage. Then up to Sask Health they could decide how many family members could attend. There are 30,000 seats in the stadium, so there is definitely a way to get some family in person. How is having a graduation indoors with less people gonna be better at stopping the spread of Covid? When Covid spreads faster inside than when we are outside? July 11th is our expected day to lift all restrictions...is there a way to do grad after that? So we can have a full grad? I don’t think you would wanna see all the hard work your son or daughter, niece or nephew, grandson or granddaughter have put into high school, not pay off and be ended on such a horrible note. 

If we need ideas of how to do a socially distant grad we can look at many schools across the world that have done grads outside. This ceremony means more to us as Grade 12s than you guys could ever know. We ask that Saskatchewan Health Authority please give an exception for outdoor grads because we would really like to end our year on a high note. I would be willing to meet with a Saskatchewan Health Representative and the Regina Public School System to somehow come up with a way to do a grad for all students across Regina Public. Please don’t let us remember our last year of high school as one of the worst years of our lives, please help us end it on a good note. Dig into that heart of yours and allow us to have an outdoor grad at our dream venue.

Us students are super grateful with all the hard work the Regina Public School Division has put in on our behalf, and now we just need Saskatchewan Health Authority to allow us some leeway just for that weekend.
