Roxanne Yong started this petition to Sarawak Disaster Management Control (SDMC) and

The surge in our cases in Sarawak isn’t exactly proving how "well” we are doing at “controlling” the COVID–19 situation in our state. I am here today to suggest that we all should demand an MCO. With that being said, I have to say that I understand how devastating being in an MCO would be for the low-income community and even regular people trying to pay the bills. However, if we don’t take serious action now, we’re only putting ourselves at a bigger risk. I apologise if this has offended any one of you who struggled during the first MCO, but we came so close to flattening the curve in our state. We have slowly become so complacent especially when it comes to our festivities. As a person who celebrates 3 different festivities in a year, I do agree that a festive season is a little more merry and complete with our bazaars and visiting; especially in a time like this, when we crave for a good get-together but I would rather not have any festive bazaars this year than to not have one at all for many years to come. We have to start straightening out our priorities and we need to do it now!

On top of that, our borders should be closed to more! Period! The fact that Sarawak introduced ourselves to the Philippine or the P.3 variant should be enough wake us up! Dear Ministers, please, there's only so much we can do as citizens. It is like the blind leading the blind at this point. We can’t overlook those two cases and we surely cannot let anymore in!

In regards to how it would impact the low-income community –– especially daily-wage workers –– I’m not sure about our state’s funds but the rest of us who are financially capable, MINISTERS who are financially capable, we should lend a helping hand to those who are struggling. I know it’s a big favour to ask and it is definitely easier said than done but life was never easy to begin with! So why not make it a little worthwhile and do it for one another. I’m sure that it would make a lot of us think that perhaps not having the MCO is easier than having to struggle financially in the next MCO and having to donate to those in need. The night is darkest before the dawn and your room only gets messier while you’re cleaning it before it gets organised! I have bitten my tongue for way too long thinking that I am a nobody and that my opinions would not matter but I'd rather speak my mind out now than to regret not doing it at all.

Sign the petition so we can show how much we need the MCO, our BORDERS CLOSED, and how our ministers should take a different course of action –– one that not only does all of this but making an effort to support those who are struggling and WILL continue to struggle to make ends meet. It is our responsibility as Sarawakians and we should always, ALWAYS persevere in times like this. Not sweep it under the rug and make as though things are fine when they most certainly are not.

I hope many of us can see eye to eye and make a difference by making the right judgment calls for our beloved Sarawak and its people.
