Find a better redevelopment plan for the Moore Hall site on Union Avenue

The Union Avenue/Congress Park neighborhood has been blighted by the abandoned Moore Hall dormitory building, or "Pink Palace" for quite some time. There is a proposal before the Saratoga Springs land use boards to turn this building into 53 apartments. This level of density on the site far exceeds what is allowed or appropriate for the neighborhood, and will have significant negative impacts on the neighbors and surrounding area.
The parking pressures and traffic concerns that will result from this project are a community problem, impacting not only the neighborhood residents but the parents and pupils of the three schools on the street, drivers who pass through the area, visitors to the Saratoga Race Course, and all people who approach Saratoga Springs from the Union Avenue entrance. Additional negative impacts from the project include noise, lack of improvement of the visual character of this Historic District, pedestrian safety and others.
The units proposed in this development plan are market rate apartments that offer uncommonly small square footage, ceilings below 8' tall, insufficient parking for the residents, and no additional on-site amenities. They will not be an asset to the community or to the neighborhood.
Please join us in showing your opposition to this project. We urge the developer and the city's Land Use Boards to pursue alternate possibilities for the redevelopment of this site.
