Why this petition matters

Started by Betsy Coniglio

New Mexico needs to solve the problem of its excess in unrecycled glass.

It is heavy to transport, difficult to recycle, and is mindlessly purchased readily by consumers. Our planet is suffering and we can do something about it!

Put used glass into our roadways! Use it as an aggregate for surface and base course. The city of Albuquerque and the town of Taos, no longer recycle glass, not to mention the towns and villages in between. We are doing our residents a disservice if we are not completely responsible for our waste.

While the true solution is to use less of it, and to have residents follow good recycling practices, we have the capacity to also use it in our state's infrastructure, as other states have done. Use a reclaimed glass information toolkit and find out how other states are using it.

Let's lesson our reliance on glass in New Mexico!
