NAPLAN is a series of literacy and numeracy tests that was introduced in 2008 and should be abolished by 2022. NAPLAN is said to determine the learning progress of our students in Australia and to help schools improve our learning, so why is it that it only provides teachers and parents an extremely limited view of a students learning and capabilities? In fact, the results are practically meaningless as students have nonetheless moved on with their education which breaks the basic rules and concept of a valid assessment. Taking the idea of banning NAPLAN into consideration would not only save money and time, but would also benefit a child's mental health.
