Moorland Primary school early years unit has several issues relating to drainage including damp and mould. There are areas where guttering is internal with open drains within the unit itself, carpets and furniture are soggy and there is black mould. It is completely unacceptable that teachers have had to unblock drains with their hands, manage flooding and bleach the mouldy walls.

Cardiff council have been aware of the problem for a considerable amount of time yet its been almost a year since the last time they visited and there is no firm plan or time frame for rectifying the problem in place.

Meanwhile children and staff are in damp and mouldy conditions which could lead to respiratory problems, allergies, asthma and a generally negative impact on their immune system. I doubt that schools in other areas of the city would remain in such a state for as long as this has and feel that the council should do more to support the constituents and their families in this area, our children deserve clean and healthy facilities.

The faculty at the school have been exemplary in providing a wonderful school experience while also keeping the unit running.

The posititon of the unit, its outdoor facilities and the area around it used for forest school are a valuable asset to the school and we dont want to loose that asset so we as parents are coming out in support of our school, our teachers and our children. We want Cardiff Council to create a unit that is fit for purpose and to commit to it being completed in a timely manner.
