We, a concerned group of Sri Lankan citizens and supporters would like to bring your kind notice to the recent judgment delivered in the case of Majuran Sathananthan vs Brigadier Andige  Priyanka Indunil Fernando. 

The trial was completed at the Westminister Magistrate's courts on 19th November 2019.

As you may be already aware of, this case involves an alleged incident of certain gestures made by Brigadier Fernando towards terrorist sympathizers on 18th February 2018 while working as the Defence Attaché of the Sri Lankan High Commission in London. 

The Government of Sri Lanka maintains Brigadier Fernando as a diplomat at the time of this incident. As a result, he should be entitled to diplomatic immunity as per article 31 of the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations of 1961.

We strongly believe that Brigadier Fernando's diplomatic privileges were violated by this case and the justice system of the United Kingdom has initiated bad precedence. 

We would like to express our deep regret on the way a high ranking Sri Lankan diplomat was treated within the justice system of the United Kingdom.
