Ban the practice of Doctors charging for sick notes in Alberta

Doctors are charging ridiculously high fees to print a piece of paper and sign it, which can be used as proof for missing work or other important engagements. These fees range from $40-$70, usually paid cash or debit. One first hand account had the doctor use his cell phone to charge the fee, and on the statement it had his name on it, and this was at a Hospital not a Clinic managed by the doctor.

It is cruel to people already missing work, a minimum wage employee should not have to work 3+ hours to pay a doctor to print and sign a sheet of paper, especially when they're already missing work.

The practice of paid doctors notes should be ended. We need to either ban the fees, or ban workplaces requiring them.
