Illinois has passed Senate Bill 3249 stating that grades K-12 provide teaching in public schools that shall include a study of the role and contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in the history of this country and this State effective July 1, 2019. These issues are not age appropriate and should not be taught to children who do not know or completely understand sexuality. This can be seen as mental abuse and purposely confusing to young children who should have no understanding of sexuality in elementary school. Illinois State Board of Education states the following themes should be taught in K-5:
The themes are:
Kindergarten: My Social World
First Grade: Living, Learning, and Working Together
Second Grade: Families, Neighborhoods, and Communities
Third Grade: Communities Near and Far
Fourth Grade: Our State, Our Nation
Fifth Grade: Our Nation, Our World
The recent push for identifying cultural differences in order to establish inclusivness and unity has been mascaraed as a cultural construct considering ones race, place of origin and heritage. Ones sexuality and gender identity are now added on to the list. Exposing young children to these ideas and images, as well as gaining an understanding of them should be a parental choice not a government mandate.
