I'm signing this petition as an Occupational Therapist who worked closely with Miss Friel in her special education classroom for 2 years. She is an excellent teacher who fully understands the needs of children with various disabilities including autism. This program was what I call "a jewel in the rough" among chicago public schools. The importance of early childhood special education programming cannot be described in words. Bret Harte school and the Hyde Park neighborhood will be missing an important piece of the puzzle without this program.

I just cannot believe how low you can go. These kids need early intervention more than most. My nephew is benefitting from a similar program in another state and he is autistic and it has made such a world of difference. Keep the programs open!!!

The board of education are doing our children a disservice by closing programs that are needed by the students who need them most.

If parents state this is an excellent program, it makes more sense to do outreach and find more students that could benefit from the program rather than stopping the program.

Cutting 1/2 of only two special Ed pre-K's on the South Side of our city is just morally wrong. Chicago has the money to fund this. A budget is all about priorities.
