Remove the current Calipatria Inmate Family Council and replace with new members
0 have signed. Let’s get to 200!
The IFC is a council of visitors that meet every other month or quarterly with the prison officials to voice concerns or issues with the administrative staff at the prison. The IFC is made up of representatives from all yards with a total of 10 members allowed. The council members should be regular visitors and have to be approved by the Warden and the other council members.
The IFC usually responds to questions and concerns left in the suggestion box in the visiting lobby or questions that are sent online to the Calipatria IFC website. The questions and/or concerns are then presented to prison officials where change is then instituted. The families and visitors are then made aware of what has occurred at the meeting by posting minutes in the lobby and on the IFC website. The members of the IFC are to make themselves visible and approachable to visitors that may have questions or concerns. The meeting dates are supposed to be posted in the lobby and on the IFC website in case someone would like to attend as a guest to see the process happen.
The IFC that is currently in place has done none of what I have just written about and has in fact done the exact opposite. There have been only 2 members for the 2 years that I have been visiting at Calipatria and they have either not responded to applications to join or said they "lost the application".
There have not been minutes posted on the IFC website since 2015 and no one knows when the meetings occur or what transpires in them. The IFC is supposed to be a representative and voice for the families of the incarcerated and help to bring about change regarding any aspect of the prison. The IFC is supposed to respond to questions or concerns that are put in the suggestion box and/or in the Calipatria IFC website. The current IFC is non-responsive to all forms of communication whether dropped in the box in the lobby, posted online or mailed to the PO Box, they do not respond.
We have not had a functioning IFC at Calipatria for a long time and it is time for that to change. Please sign the petition and share so that the families and loved ones of the incarcerated at Calipatria State Prison can have a voice and be informed with what is happening.
