Dear SMC Board of Trustees and Faculty of the Cosmetology Department, 

We are current SMC students that are pursuing a career in Cosmetology, Esthetics, Nail Care, and Barbering. Through this pandemic many of our lives were changed. We lost loved ones, some of us were laid off, we became full time teachers for our children and lastly we had the opportunity to pursue a career in the beauty industry because SMC offered online classes. 

However, now many of us are facing a difficult challenge. We are still in a pandemic and as we approach the end of our classes, Salon will no longer be offered online. 

We would like to petition for Santa Monica College to continue offering online Salon classes for students who enrolled during the pandemic for the following reasons:

1. We are still in a pandemic.
2. Some of us are pregnant, nursing or have become full time caregivers for our children. 
3. We are  immunocompromised.
4. We live with or are caregivers for family members who are immunocompromised.
5. We are unable to get vaccinated against COVID-19 due to medical or religious reasons. 
6. Many of us are finished with our technical classes and will not be able to finish our course if Salon is only offered on campus.
