Santa Cruz mountain bikers together during covid times: support inclusive policy!
Santa Cruz mountain bikers together during covid times! All cyclists, outdoor enthusiasts, and their supporters are invited to sign this petition.
Join us and show your support for an inclusive covid-19 participation policy at Girls Rock Santa Cruz Mountain Biking events. Girls Rock is a nonprofit, volunteer-run, women's mountain biking group in Santa Cruz, California that provides free monthly guided rides and outdoor social activity.
The current Girls Rock policy requires proof of vaccination for participation and does not include the option to provide a negative covid test, even for those with medical exemptions.
On the evening of Tuesday, March 8, the Girls Rock Board of Directors will vote on two proposed separate updates to their covid-19 participation policy.
- The first option would exclude more riders than the current policy by requiring all participants to be “up-to-date” with booster shots, with no exception for medically-advised deferrals such as recent covid-19 infection or pregnancy.
- The second option is broadly inclusive and will allow participants to provide proof of a negative covid-19 test.
We ask the Girls Rock Board of Directors to vote for a covid-19 participation policy that provides access to all members of our community by allowing for a negative covid-19 test as an alternative to proof of vaccination.
The Girls Rock organization provides a valuable resource in our community. Group outdoor activities that provide social connection are vital to our emotional, physical, and mental health. We want to ensure that participation in Girls Rock events is available to every rider, and that no one is excluded due to a medical condition that prevents them from being vaccinated.
We acknowledge the following:
- The risk of covid-19 transmission is present in many daily activities to varying degrees.
- Any person can be a carrier of covid-19 regardless of vaccination status.
- Regular testing is a widely accepted method of reducing risk of transmission when vaccination is not possible.
We seek to unite our community of riders through progressive policy action that acknowledges we are all accountable for our own health.
Our goal is to provide compassion, inclusion, and safety to all members of our community as we carry on with endemic life.
Together we can move forward, play together, and be safe!
